Being a content creator: My take

I started my blog journey at the beginning of the year because of my class, but I never thought I would feel the way I do about it now.

I have loved and truly enjoyed making content for those who are interested, specially because I get to share with other people something I very much enjoy. It’s rewarding to share a part of your life to others and know they care about it as much as I do.

I could have definitely improved a wider variety of pictures so the audience could interact with them on my site and posts. Also, stayed more consistent in my promotions, maybe add more hashtags that promoted my posts outside of Texas State. BUT, I did enjoy sharing about my life and just simply allowing others to have some part of it. As an Advertising major, I believe the start of this blog will allow me to continue it in the near future. It had showed me there is this amazing thing called blogging that allows me to express myself and create quality content I and others enjoy; I can make it my own too! It important to share with others what you are doing with moderation so they can know what you are about and why they should invest in you. For my many future and current ventures, I will be sure to keep considering blogging as a tool to reach more people and connect to another level.

*Most popping day*

I mentioned I did not promote myself outside of my FDOM twitter, so I did not reach too many people, but there are some days I definitely did! My most popular week was the week of February 17, where I received 14 views and 6 visitors! My most popular post was the only post I wrote in Spanish and I happened to be super proud of it too. It received 8 views. It makes me happy knowing people wanted to at least click on it even if they might have not all understand it. I believe it was such a hit because no one that I know of write a post in their native language, so everyone might have been curious. If you want to check it out too if you haven’t yet, click here. I realized people were also kinda exited to see my outfit of the week. I believe this added a mood and it encouraged people to click on my posts every time. Overall, I was exited to see people interacting with my posts. Regardless of me barely promoting it, it still reach some people, and that makes me proud of my work. I didn’t receive very much twitter interaction and thats ok, I know I did made a twitter just for the class, I am still not discouraged. I am thankful for the experience and opportunity boggling gave me. It allowed me to start something I have always wanted to do.

Thank you everyone who took the time to click on my page and support my posts. It means so much to me! Shoutout to anyone who retweeted me and boosted my posts a little more, very much appreciated☺.

Online Quarantine

As we all know, there is A LOT going on around the world. We have been on lockdown for a while regardless of stores opening at the beginning of this month. A lot of people still are skeptical to go in retail stores, and honestly; so am I.

My closet was going through a clothing drought. I buy literally most of my clothes on thrift stores, and they all temporarily closed down. I was okay for a few weeks, but after a while – it started to hit me.

I tend to buy either at thrift stores, or online stores. I appreciate the uniqueness in the pieces I come across as I thrift. As far as online shopping, I only do so if I want a specific item because it gives me worldwide access to any store to find exactly what I am looking for. BUT, it is very rare, as it can get pretty pricey.

I wanted to share with you guys the online websites and trendy pieces I have decided to shop in during quarantine. Since this is the only way it feels safe to shop, I decided to simply go for it! A little late night shopping (responsibly) never hurt nobody.

These shorts from boohoo.com have become a staple piece in my closet. They are so chic and easy to throw on is ridiculous. The quality is super nice and they fit like a glove. I actually got myself 2 pairs, a black and this white one but I believe they are out of the black ones. The strap heels are amazing. I love the kitty heal and the toe strap, again; super trendy. I got them in white, but I believe they also are out of these but they have 2 more colors to pick from. The price on this site are incomparable! They do take a little longer to ship, but its all worth it when everything comes. The more you order the better.

Another basic to add to your closet is this white crop top. Very nice and it literally goes with any outfit you want to throw on. I used the back one i purchased on prettylittlething.us in my last outfit of the week. To check out how to style it, click here for my last post and scroll down to the bottom :). Anyways, I got them in 2 colors, white and like I said, black. They are out of black, but still so many cute colors to pick from. I would suggest to go a size down, they are a little bit big! I know the jeans are a little expensive, but for my curvy girls like me, I can never find jeans that adjust to my waist and fit my hips. Jeans from this site fit me perfect and hug me from all the right places. The quality is nice and shipping is pretty fast. They also always have some good discounts!

This site has the cutest shoes ever! I love heels as much as I like wearing sneakers, so having the trendiest shoes is a must for me. This site has cheap shoes that won’t hurt your account online. I have been to cheaper stores in person, but online, this is the cheapest it gets that I have come across so far. Super cute and so many styles. The sandals at the top I wear soooooooo much its not even funny. I am involve with the look. As far as the black ones, I really appreciate thong mules, they are super different and easy to throw on. Dont sleep on egoshoes.com.

There you are ladies. Check out these boutiques if you want any to do some online shopping like me. My favorite time to do this is in between breaks from work and at night haha. Support small boutiques during this time, I very well encourage it! It is the best way you can help someone else.

Now, enjoy my last outfit of the week for a while. Peace out☺.

My Top Male Fashion Accounts

As promised, I told you guys I would do a continuation from My Top – Fashion accounts and this time I would do men! Last week I did My Top Female Fashion Accounts; where I reviewed my top 3 favorite fashion muses, this time I will do the same, but men.

As a woman, I naturally enjoy seeing women put their own twist on certain pieces, outfits, etc. BUT… as a fashion enthusiast, I enjoy fashion in all forms. No matter who is wearing it, I give credit where credit is due.

Men in fashion is tricky. They LOVE Streetwear and being overall comfortable; thats a pattern I have been coming across recently. In my opinion, there are not many men who I can say have a passion for it and consistently share it on platforms like Instagram. Men dress up for occasions, and as your dad; he keeps the same pair of shoes for years (am I right ladies and gentlemen?). It was a little difficult for me to browse through Instagram trying to find my top accounts, because like I mentioned; there are not very men who expressively share their love for fashion on social media. When they do, I appreciate it for what it is! Men seem to always be more driven to do their own thing when they truly do it, so I like to share my appreciation.

For my post, I will be sharing with you my Top 3 male fashion accounts I found to be unique (no order) and will be sharing with you guys why their fashion style caught my attention and seemed unique to me!

@d.ave.y

As he states on his bio; His take on streetwear! Davey’s account and style stood out to me because of how feminine he is not afraid to be and I truly appreciate that from a male figure. He chooses to wear scarves on his head, open blazers without a shirt under, and sunglasses that you do not typically see a man wear. Regardless of, he still looking as cozy as he will ever be yet super put together, professional and classy. His take on streetwear has a very European vibe to It I live for. Look over this page, there might be something you will like!

@dongottti

Him being from NJ/NY, you can definitely see where his influence comes from one of the biggest streetwear capitals in the world. Don’s (that might not his name, but I will refer to him as Don) account has a very creative feel to it, not only for his style but also for his photography. I mentioned in my past blog how much I appreciated accounts that incorporated sneakers to fashion, and I love how he not only incorporates the craziest sneakers to his super hard outfits, but he also does it in photography and is able to capture the true beauty of the sneaker.

@pierre.laurent

Pierre is definitely one of the accounts I can really say, wow, he can dress for the occasion. He incorporates different styles so well and effortlessly. The way he WEARS suits, yet can still pop on a pair of sneakers and still look super professional is amazing! I appreciate the most how much he switches up his style. He knows when he can wear what he does, when to switch it up, and how to keep it clean. Very classy, minimalistic, yet so eye catching! Not very much to say, you just have to see it for yourself!

Thats it guys, my top 3 favorite male fashion accounts! It wasn’t easy to find or to pick, but I believe these dudes deserve some recognition for their work! Please be sure to check them out, love to appreciate other peoples art . NOW, onto outfit of the week…

My Top Female Fashion Accounts

Let’s face it: we all follow at least 2 female fashion accounts whether you implement fashion on your everyday life or not. Although I do not spend my time on the internet looking at what others are wearing for my own inspiration, I am interested in seeing peoples styles and how different we all are when it comes to fashion.

Everyone who knows me knows I simply CANNOT keep one style for the rest of my life, not even for a season. I am constantly switching up and experimenting with different aspects and pieces. Everyday I grow and outgrow certain styles of shoes or tops or pants, specially because I am constantly entering different phases in my life. I like fresh styles, new concepts, new moods, and speeeeeeecially, personal creativity not what everyone else wears.

For my post today, I want to share with you my top 3 female favorite fashion instagram accounts on the internet (no order). I will be a little hard to narrow down to 3, but I will pick the ones I think have something special and unique to them!

@danie.sierra

Danie has a very unique and special way to incorporate legendary and cool sneakers to her everyday style. Being a sneaker lover myself, I appreciate her knowledge and background on sneakers and the way she can pull all of It off, I meeeeeeean, and she is also a stylist. Check her page out, you won’t regret it!

@sunita.ckr

Sunita has the most unique way to layer I have ever seen. Not only her ability to layer so many things and still look fabulous, but they way she incorporates soooooo many different styles into one outfit is beautiful to me. She also makes a lot of her clothes, so it is no surprise a lot of things you see you cannot find anywhere else!

@thefashionmuse_

I appreciate Prissy’s style because it is very attainable. What she wears is always so cute and trendy and they are things YOU can also wear. Her style is affordable and you can even buy things similar to hers if it isn’t elsewhere. I love how she always shares with her followers about her pieces and is always interacting on her stories talking about her personal style. You go girl!!!

Like I mentioned before, I have plenty accounts I find to be special, but these are the ones I have the most sentiment towards. I also follow some male accounts I find to be very unique! If you are interested in seeing those, let me know and next week I will make a post on my Top Male Fashion Accounts!!! Now, onto Outfit of the Week!

Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring

Hello guys! After being absent for so long during while this pandemic is going on, it seems like people have forgotten about the change of seasons and how it has affected the Fashion World!

You know, I get it. Making the transition form cold to warm, Winter to Spring, seems like a scary topic. You might go on a freakout shopping spree for sandals and crop tops you have convinced yourself you did not save from last year. If you are anything like me, I wear mostly sneakers, which as you know you can wear all year around. Most likely you will be itching to get your toes done and throw on the best pair of sandals you have been seeing for months but you couldn’t wear because of how cold it was outside. I could tell how much every woman wanted to wear sandals because every chance the temperature rose, all girls were wearing their go-to pair of open toed shoes on my school campus – haha.

Even before everything going on, one of the main places I buy shoes and clothes are usually online. Not everything you like will always be avalible at your local boutique or thrift, so you have to do a little digging of your own and find exactly what you are looking for. What gets me is the ads I get on my social media. They always show me the cutest shoes as if they have read my mind, and guess what I do… go buy them. $10.99 for a pair of cute sandals with student discount? Sign me in!

Today I want to help you guys with some tips on how to transition form Winter to Spring with the same wardrobe (in case of emergency ladies)! I have yet to order all my spring shoes and clothes because I am not sure if I will be able to wear them as much this Spring and Summer so I want to keep my coins safe In my pocket, but I did get a couple of pairs and pieces I was itching to add to my collection. We all know trends come and go – unless they are legendary, am I right?! Be mindful of your online purchases queens and kings.

  1. Your go-to Trench Coat
  2. Chunky Sweaters
  3. Jeans or Pants

1.If you are anything like me, I have been obsessed with leather everything. One of my go-to’s lately have been my leather coat, which is such a huge statement piece. No matter what I am wearing or how the temperature outside might be, I pull out my leather coat to boost my outfit a little more. Boyfriend jeans and a crop top? Biker shorts and a bra? Leather coat!

2. I will have to admit, you can only push a sweater for too long. I believe the perfect time to push a sweater to is Spring, not too hot not too cold. The cutest way to pair a sweater in spring is with a mid skirt or a short skirt. In warmer weather, we want the sweater to be the warmest thing on our bodies, so something a little more open will work the best!

3. The best way to make your transition when it comes to pants are always the wash and color of them, specially jeans! In warm sunny days, we always want to pull out our lighter wash jeans instead of our regular dark washed jeans. Ripped pants are also the best option because air flows through and it does not make your legs feel so suffocated! Lighter toned pants, pants with a flare/wide leg, or boyfriend jeans are also the best. I will tell you this though, you do not want to wear black jeans on a hot spring day and burn your legs with the sun. If you are feeling brave through, go ahead sis.

These are 3 of my favorite fashion tips for this Spring. If you would like to browse through more tips, check out this article here. It gives you plenty of tips I did not mention in this post! Hopefully these were helpful to you! If you would like to chat with me or leave any comments, do not forget to do so down below. Now, on to outfit of the week!☺

Introduction

Author’s Insight

Welcome everyone, my name is Dafne Vargas! I am a 19-year-old from Northern Mexico living in Dallas, Tx. Currently, I am studying my Bachelors in Advertising and Fashion Merchandising at Texas State University in San Marcos, where I spend most of my time. To incorporate my love for the masses and fashion, my blog will contain more useful information and opinion on fashion trends!

Christian Dior Exhibition at the DMA
Me at the DMA in Dallas, TX during the exhibition “Dior: From Paris to the World.” By my friend Brooklynn Pope.

My love for fashion started off after I moved to the United States. As a child, back in my country fashion was not a priority the way it is now in my life. I just always wanted to look put together, but I didn’t really know what this new world of art was. I grew older and older and came to the realization of how amazing fashion really is — It is a form of art and self expression, way more than just putting on a nice outfit and going about the day.

For as long as I can remember, my mother was always the kind of woman who anywhere she would set foot in, she would be looking good. Seeing my mother always being so put together, no matter what the circumstance is, where the clothes come from, etc. Always inspired me to do so as well. She always looked her best. She always found a way to stay on trend, pretty much a fashion queen if I say so myself. I recall the times we would have to run to the store together and she didn’t have her hair, makeup, and heels on, so she would send me in the store while she would stay in the car waiting for me so no one would see her — haha, classic mother.

After our move to another country, my mother and I were bombarded with opportunities for more accessible clothing. I was able to experiment with a bunch of trends and styles, find what was most comfortable and fun for me to wear and that’s what I would get. From new hair styles, to my nail polish color and shoes, it all became my hobby and then my lifestyle!

I hope as you read my blog, you are not here just because you like fashion but because you have an interest of it! I keep an open mind on whatever any of you guys are interested in me writing. Wether it is wanting opinions on a new trend, maybe review an outfit, or another topic related to this you topic. I don’t have a particular interest in a certain type of clothing or piece — if I see it and I like it, then I do! You guys can shoot me a Tweet @dafnevvt or just leave a comment down below, I am always open to see what you guys are into. It would be my pleasure to review it, not only for those Fashion fanatics like me, but also viewers who are interested in learning, or simply just like looks, you don’t have to be a fashion queen to read my posts!

My blog reviews will consist of honest and personal reviews on fashion. In my posts, I hope my readers can find anything they can be able to relate to and feel safe to share anything they are interested. I hope to explore beyond my personal interests and incorporate others as well. My goal is to help others learn, be more open/comfortable to what fashion is all about, and keep people updated on this on going trend called fashion!

What to look forward to? Remember, every week I will personally post my favorite outfit I wore during the week at the end of every post and give you guys information about my favorite piece!!! See you next week☺

Lifestyle Thrifting

My First Blog Post

The good old Thrifting

One of the craziest things about the world of fashion to me is how the industry was and still is able to incorporate thrifting.

Image result for thrift stores
Goodwill in San Marcos, Texas. By, Dafne Vargas (me)
Thrifting is the act of shopping at a thrift store, garage sale etc. with the goal of finding items for a low price and usually send hand.

They said it, low price, not me! I remember as a kid my mother and everyone else in my family used to go thrifting. It was the only place we could regularly purchase clothing items, shoes and accessories. Once in a while we would purchase something new — maybe for an event or what not —but our go-to was definitely waking up early in the morning on a weekend and go look at second hand clothes. It was definitely a luxury to us, as well as it still is to me. Things were sold for the range of $ out of $$ price point.

As I grew older, I started to realize how drastically this had changed… Vintage became a trend, and when something becomes a trend — prices go up!

Stores like Uptown Cheapstake, Buffalo Exchange, Plato’s Closet, are what young people like me think thrifting truly is. I personally love —still to this day — to go to my local Texas Thrift and browse through an enormous variety of clothes for a cheap price. All these regular thrifts that exists amongst our communities are where the real gems are, of course — if you know how and where to look!

Back in the good days, people were even embarrassed to say they bought something second-hand. Now, everyone feels like it is cool to shop at these upscale thrift spots where they not only sale, but they buy and trade things from you, which I think is a great way to introduce a different perspective of clothing suitable to all! I personally would not call it thrifting, just because they do sell things on a higher end of the bargain, about $$$ to $$$$ price point while they buy from you and you get literally 1% return. I can compare prices as high as an H&M, where new can be purchased. The concept is awesome, but maybe it is time to add a new name for these shops.

I think it is important to always keep in mind no matter where we are shopping on a Sunday, we are always staying authentic to ourselves and our sense of style.

To conclude, there are so many Vintage stores absolutely everywhere I can’t even count with all my own fingers. The saddest part about our generation is that they might never know what thrifting used to be! Just remember no matter where you shop, you always find what is suitable for you when it comes to cost. Whether you like going to your local thrift and see all kinds of people and styles, or you like a more upscale version of vintage clothing like Buffalo Exchange, there is value in all stores.

If you regularly purchase new, I recommend you maybe to try out these new buy, sell and trade shops. While I do think they are about $$ on price and higher, they are a fun and good alternative I am sure some people don’t mind paying and they sell absolute everything. If you are feeling bold, don’t be shy to hit up your local thrift. You never know what you can find for $5! I will always recommend people to don’t wear new items of clothing when there is a whole variety of cool things out there for everyone to wear!

As the weekend approaches, I encourage all of you to hit up one of these places if you are in the mood for creativity and adventure, or you just like to shop. You never know if you’ll find that sweater you were always looking for… Stay tuned for next week.☺
